350th Trail Walks

Upcoming Walks April 23rd, 2017 12pm-3pm - Meadow Brook Uplands Trail Walk (Meeting Point will be emailed) Metacomet Land Trust is sponsoring a Vernal Pool Walk as part of the Town of Mendon’s 350th celebrations on Sunday, April 23rd at 12:00 noon at the Meadow Brook Uplands, in Mendon MA. This two-mile walk will be led by wetlands expert Jennifer Carlino. Jennifer is the long-time conservation agent in Norton and president of the Mass Society of Municipal Conservation Professionals. This event is sponsored in conjunction with Mendon's 350th Anniversary. This exploration will include approximately 2 miles of walking, with some steep elevation changes. Polarized sun glasses will help you see some of the life in the vernal pool. No dogs permitted. Register using the form above. Limited to 20 participants due to parking restrictions at the trail head, and the sensitive habitat. The walk starts at noon, and the rally point will be given to participants after registration. Metacomet Land Trust is a non-profit conservation organization dedicated to the protection of open space and natural resources in Southern Central Massachusetts.Since 1988 Metacomet has worked with landowners, towns and state agencies to permanently protect land. MLT owns more than 350 acres across our member communities, protects another 162 acres through Conservation Restrictions, and has assisted in the conservation of another 900 acres---land that is now town open space, state parks and forests, and state wildlife management areas. Metacomet Land Trust holds the Conservation Restriction on Meadow Brook Uplands, which was permanently protected in June 2014. Come explore the Inman Hill Wildlife Conservation Area and learn about edible foraging from Russ Cohen (MA resident and published author of "Wild Plants I have Known ...and Eaten") Led by Russ Cohen, Naturalist & Wild Food Enthusiast Wild Seed Seeker & Sharer Sponsored by the Mendon Land Use Committee Meeting point will be the top of Inman Hill Rd. (33 Inman Hill Rd) by the metal barns. *A shorter version of this walk (3/4 mile) is available, please note in the comment section of the registrations. October 15th, 2016 @ 10am - Mendon Town Forest Discovery Walk - 2-3 miles (203 Millville Rd.) Come explore the Mendon Town Forest. Acquired by the town in 1934 for Tax Title, this property consists of 120+ acres. The property holds many historic remains of past settlements including an old gristmill and dance hall. Meeting point will be the new parking lot for the Town Forest on Millville Rd. (203 Millville Rd) Sponsored Mendon Town Forest Committee April 11th, 2017 7:30-9pm - The Trustees of Reservations Full Moon Snowshoe Walk at Cormier Woods (217 Chapin St. Uxbridge, MA) Originally scheduled for Feb. 10th, postponed until March 12th due to weather and postponed again to April 11th due to weather. This will begin at the Cormier Woods farmstead on 217 Chapin St. Uxbridge, MA. This walk is limited to 20 people so pre-registrations are REQUIRED. Please dress warmly and bring snowshoes if conditions require. The walk will end with hot chocolate and a fire.
